In case you may have missed it, we’ve jumped ahead in our White Sox simulated season due to the looming return of actual baseball. The fast-forward now brings us to the ALDS against the Minnesota Twins, where the series is tied 2-2.
After heading into Minnesota with a 2-0 lead, Ricky’s boys dropped a pair to bring the all-important Game 5 back to Chicago. Unfortunately, the Sox fell on the wrong side of a pitcher’s duel and dropped the contest by a final of 3-2.
Things looked promising in the third when Jose Abreu opened the scoring with a solo home run into the left field crowd. From there on, the team provided consistent offensive with eight hits over the first five innings, but just couldn’t get any other runs to show for it.
The Twins displayed their first signs of life in the seventh when Josh Donaldson hit a bomb off reliever Aaron Bummer. It was the only mistake of a rather impressive inning by the southpaw, and thankfully Tim Anderson had an answer in the bottom half with a home run of his own. Sox Park was sent into a full-on frenzy as Anderson slammed his bat and gave the club a 2-1 lead.
In a somewhat questionable move, Bummer was sent out by Ricky for a second inning of work and that’s when Bummer’s other mistake would come. With a runner on, Minnesota’s Luis Arraez hit a hanging pitch into right field for the would-be game-winning home run to put Minnesota on top 3-2.
An unfortunate end to a fun ride.
