White Sox 2, Royals 1: Fedde helps end losing streak

by Tommy Gross

After losing the first game of today’s doubleheader, the Sox were able to rally back and split the day even. Erick Fedde was able to lockdown the Royals’ offense, allowing zero runs in 5.2 IP on 94 pitches. Tanner Banks and Devi Garcia were both solid out of the pen, only allowing one run that resulted from an error Banks made earlier in his inning.

Fedde’s great performances alleviate the pressure off the Sox offense to perform. In the fourth, the Sox scored their first run after a Domininc Fletcher single brought Andrew Vaughn in. Gavin Sheets extended the lead in the sixth with a solo shot as he has stayed hot to start the early season.

With this win, the Sox are 3-15 and 5th in the AL Central.

Pitching Recap:

Notable Performances

Erick Fedde (SP): 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

With a prolonged offensive output from the White Sox (per usual), Fedde dialed in and pitched his best outing of the year so far. He started slow in the first inning with two walks and a wild pitch but was lights out after that.

Gavin Sheets (RF): 1-for-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Two words: Gavin Bonds. Gavin Sheets continues to annihilate balls this year and had a nice solo homer off the right-field pole today. His Baseball Savant page looks so nice it should probably be hanging in the Louvre right now.

Paul Dejong (SS): 2-for-3, K

Paul Dejong had himself a day today. If you include the first game of the doubleheader, he went 5-for-6, 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K. Here is his homer from earlier:

Next Matchup

The Sox are off tomorrow, and their next game will be on Friday in Philadelphia against the Phillies at 5:40 PM CT. Garrett Crochet will be on the mound for the South Siders and will square off against Spencer Turnbull.
