Eloy Jimenez exits Sunday’s game with left adductor soreness

by Joe Binder

We have our first injury of the 2024 season and it involves exactly who you think it would.

The White Sox announced that designated hitter Eloy Jimenez exited Sunday’s game with left adductor soreness. For those unfamiliar, the adductor is a group of muscles that extend from the pelvic bone down to the inner thigh and knee. The team says Jimenez is still being further evaluated.

The injury occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning on a ground out to third base. Replays showed Jimenez grimace as he pulled up about midway through his stride toward first. He then gingerly made his way back to the dugout before being replaced by Gavin Sheets later in the game.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new for the left fielder turned designated hitter. Jimenez has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, notably missing time last season with a “low-grade hamstring strain” on April 4th before being sidelined a couple months after an appendectomy in early May.

When it comes to the adductor injury, Jimenez suffered a similar one in Triple-A back in 2018, and missed approximately two weeks with a strain. Hopefully, history doesn’t repeat itself and an IL stint can be avoided, but Eloy’s past doesn’t provide much optimism.

After the game, manager Pedro Grifol told reporters that the team should know more about the severity of Jimenez’s injury tomorrow. Grifol said the White Sox will be prepared in case an IL stint and roster move is necessary.
