Postgame Report: Tigers 4, White Sox 3

by Nicole Reitz

In the first game of a three-game series, the South-Siders went up to Comerica Park looking to take care of the Tigers. However, their attempt at taking the lead fell short in tonight’s loss 4-3. The magic number to clinch drops to  2.

Carlos Rodon had a short outing tonight after three innings with 69 pitches and 10 swinging strikes. He struck out six in the first two innings, but 58 pitches were thrown over the final two innings. Ruiz, Crochet, Burr, and Kimbrel were the relievers tonight, combining for 5 innings and 1 earned run.

Kimbrel had Grossman down 0-2 with two outs but hit him with a curveball. Grossman stole second on a pitch to the backstop and Harold Castro hit a single through the infield to put the Tigers up 4-3.

On the offense, things heated up for the Sox starting in the 3rd inning, but the bats didn’t connect again for the rest of the game. After Brian Goodwin walked, Tim Anderson got the first hit of the game. Yoan Moncada, Yasmani Grandal and Eloy Jimenez all had RBIs.

With the loss, the White Sox fell to 85-65.

W: Drew Hutchison (2-1) | L: Craig Kimbrel (4-5) | S: Alex Lange (1)

Savant Leaders

Notable Performances

Carlos Rodon: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Rodon has started four games for the Sox since returning from the injured list in late August. Tonight did not command his fastball very well and struggled with his slider. His last fastball off the mound registered at 89.4 mph. He allowed three runs, two being earned, on two hits.

Yoan Moncada: 0-for-4, RBI,

Moncada’s defense outshined his offense tonight. He worked his magic with an incredible snatch at third base.

Yasmani Grandal: 1-for-2, RBI, BB

Staying hot, Grandal stood out with a double and one RBI. Yaz is currently sitting second on the MLB OPS leader board right behind Bryce Harper with 1.300.

Eloy Jimenez: 1-for-4, RBI, K

After his heater to right-center field, Jimenez’s RBI count for the season rose to 32. He is now averaging .251.
