White Sox to promote outfielder Oscar Colas

by Joe Binder

With injuries taking down the middle of the lineup, the White Sox are turning to Triple-A Charlotte for help.

According to insider Francys Romero, outfielder Oscar Colas will be promoted to Chicago within the next day. We originally reported that Colas was scratched from tonight’s Knights game in Jacksonville before his first at-bat, though remained in the dugout with the team early on.

Colas, 25, has gotten off to a strong start this season. In eight games for the Knights, the lefty is hitting .321/.375/.500 (9-for-28) with one homer and four driven in. After slashing just .216/.257/.314 in Chicago last season, Colas will be looking to prove that he can stick at the major-league level.

The decision to bring up the Cuban minor-leaguer comes after the team’s latest injury to Yoan Moncada. Like Eloy Jimenez, the third baseman suffered a left adductor strain running down the first-base line. If Jimenez’s injury is any indication, it appears that an IL stint will leave Moncada sideline for at least the next 10 days, if not longer.

Once we receive further word from the team, we’ll provide additional updates.
