Postgame Report: Indians 7, White Sox 4

The White Sox fell behind early in Cleveland and were never able to take the lead despite a four-run fifth inning. Chicago falls to 34-20, while Cleveland improves to 30-24. The magic number for the White Sox to win the division will remain at 4, as the Twins had the night off.

W: Aaron Civale (4-5) | L: Jace Fry (0-1) | SV: Brad Hand (14)

Notable Performances

Dane Dunning: 4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K

Dane Dunning gave up three runs in the first inning, but bounced back nicely over the rest of his outing. The high-pitch innings hindered his longevity, but he battled to keep the White Sox in the game.

Jose Abreu: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, BB

Jose Abreu drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning, bringing his RBI total to 55.

Nick Madrigal: 2-for-4

Nick Madrigal registered another multi-hit game tonight, and of course, both hits came on two-strike counts.

Moment & Player of the Game

Eloy Jimenez (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) tied the game with a two-run blast in the fifth inning.

Looking Ahead

The second game of four in Cleveland will be played tomorrow at 5:10 PM CT. As of now, the pitching matchup is projected to feature Reynaldo Lopez and the current Cy Young favorite Shane Bieber.

Excited by and for this team — but, can Renteria please replace Mazara and Grandal with Engel and McCann in the regular lineup? And, Luis, maybe needs to be sent to Charlotte for some more at-bats — wait, there is no team in Charlotte this year! His swing is so lacking now in power, velocity, all the elements he displayed in August, now gone. Finally, to continue with a critical rant, it’s time to find an alternative to Encarnacion. There are too many east outs in the batting order to sustain a deep run in the playoffs.

Looks like a season ending collapse has started for the Sox which will result in an early exit in the playoffs with the Sox as a wild card team. From the penthouse to the out house in the last week and a half of the regular season. When you continue to play the likes of Encarnacion in the lineup almost every game, this is what you get and deserve.
