The White Sox dropped their Spring Training game today, falling to the San Diego Padres 9-8. Lucas Giolito continued his impressive spring campaign, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings. Despite the outcome, the tall righty did yield 3 walks and 3 hits, but did well to limit any scoreboard damage against a Padres lineup stocked with Major League starters. Garrett Crochet struck out 4 in 1.2 innings, surrendering a misleading 4 earned runs, as no earned runs would have scored had Crochet himself fielded a ball properly. Eloy Jimenez spearheaded the offense attack, belting a solo homer and pushing across another run on a line drive single. Gavin Sheets, Adam Engel, and Laz Rivera all recorded 2 hits on the day as well.
Chicago was two outs away from victory before Yacksel Rios surrendered a grand slam in the top half of the ninth. Luis Robert, Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada, Leury Garcia, and Jimmy Lambert round out the notable names that appeared in today’s action.
