White Sox Update: Renteria, Jimenez, Schedule

Happy Fourth of July, Sox Fans! While you’re taking a break from festivities, here’s some Saturday news and notes to get you caught up.

Latest on squad workouts, scrimmages

Rick Renteria said that his goal is to have the team’s first combined workout on Wednesday, followed by an intrasquad game on Thursday.

Right now, the White Sox are working out in two seperate groups that are themselves split into two. It’s all part of the efforts to follow new safety guidelines and limit players from having exposure to large groups.

As for COVID-19 tests, there’s no update though Rick Hahn said yesterday that the Sox will announce the total number of tests performed and any positives once intake is complete.

Giolito to participate in simulated game on Sunday

Starting pitcher Lucas Giolito will see some action on the rubber tomorrow. Renteria said the White Sox’s ace will get up and down off the moud three times in a simulated game.

The Athletic’s James Fegan reports that Giolito did the same last week, as well. It’s all part of the team’s plan to try and build the starters’ innings up.

MLB Schedule to be released on Monday

Major League Baseball will reportedly be unveiling the 2020 schedule on Monday. Only two games are expected to be played on July 23rd, meaning the White Sox will make their season debut on Friday, July 24th.

We’ll have more coverage here on SoxOn35th.com as soon as the schedule is released, followed by a brand new podcast later in the week!
