The White Sox are another step closer towards getting their starting shortstop back.
The organization announced earlier today that Tim Anderson will begin his MLB rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte. He has since been penciled in tonight’s starting lineup as the designated hitter, batting leadoff.
Anderson, 28, is currently hitting .356/.393/.503 (58-for-163) with nine doubles, five home runs, 19 RBIs, and eight stolen bases over 40 games this season. He was placed on the White Sox‘ injured list on May 31 (retroactive to May 30) with a Grade 1 strain of his right groin.
Based on the club’s current plan, Anderson is expected to play at shortstop in Charlotte’s game on Wednesday. GM Rick Hahn said if all goes well, TA would likely return at some point next homestand, which begins on Monday. In the interim, Danny Mendick is expected continue seeing the bulk of the playing time and has made a compelling case to be the everyday second baseman upon Anderson’s return.
