Ahead of the White Sox matchup with the Rockies Friday evening, the team made two roster moves.

The afternoon press release stated that Lenyn Sosa will get the call up from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Eloy Jimenez, who was placed on the paternity list.

The 23 year old Sosa has already completed a few stints with the White Sox thus far this season, playing in 22 games at the Major League level. Over the 70 plate appearances, Sosa has slashed .132/.145/.221. The rest of his season has been spent in Charlotte, where he has hit .271/.313/.507 with 17 home runs over 71 games.

Jimenez has played in 84 games this season for the White Sox. Recently, he has been dealing with a groin injury. Thankfully, this is only a paternity leave absence and not something that has required a stint to the IL.

Initially, the call up for Sosa seems odd, as Jimenez is an outfielder while Sosa is a middle-infielder. However, it makes much more sense in light of Tim Anderson’s recently confirmed five game suspension. The team cannot make a roster move for Anderson, and will therefore have to play with one less man on the bench during his suspension. The Sosa call up, then, is as much to cover for Anderson’s suspension as it is to replace Jimenez. The White Sox take on the Rockies tonight at 7:40.

It took the White Sox 6 weeks to drop 13 games under 500. Obviously, they are playing better baseball because it took 3 months to drop another 13 games under 500.
