White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn scheduled for three rehab starts

by Joe Binder

Lance Lynn met with the media on Wednesday afternoon and provided a more detailed timeline for his recovery.

The 35-year-old workhouse said he will begin a rehab assignment this weekend with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, where he expects to make at least three starts before rejoining the White Sox rotation.

“I think the idea is three for sure and also gets you in the pitch count range you need to be so you can actually be back and be a useful starting pitcher. The last thing you want to do is come back and not be able to give innings and pitches and things like that.”

In addition to the good news, Lynn also threw about 40 pitches during live batting practice on Tuesday. Fans can expect to see him throw about the same in his first rehab start as he’s currently tabbed for 45 pitches and three innings this upcoming weekend.

Lynn originally injured himself after throwing a pitch in an April spring training game against the Diamondbacks. When the injury occurred, the veteran righty immediately hobbled off the mound and into the dugout. It appeared that he tweaked something a few pitches before, which the Diamondbacks broadcast had commented on, as his pace slowed down compared to usual.

Lynn, as you’ll remember, missed some time in 2021 due to right knee inflammation, so it makes sense that his knee flared up again. Hopefully, the surgery will help to stabilize his knee for the long-term and he won’t experience any issues as he returns to play.

If you’re keeping track of his status on the 60-day IL, note that Lynn isn’t eligible to return until June 6th. Assuming all goes well in Charlotte and he doesn’t experience any setbacks, Lynn should be activated on or around that date.

We will be sure to provide updates on Lynn both here and on our socials @SoxOn35th.
