White Sox Trade Pitcher Bailey Horn to Red Sox

by Michael Suareo

After being designated for assignment on Friday, April 26, the White Sox seem to have found a trade partner for LHP Bailey Horn. It was announced on Tuesday afternoon that he would be traded to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations.

Horn was drafted in the 5th round by the White Sox in 2020. He was later traded to the Cubs for relief pitcher Ryan Tepera in 2021 and was reacquired for pitching prospect Matthew Thompson this past offseason. The Cubs transitioned him into a bullpen role, where he seemed to be trending upward. He ended 2023 with a 4.21 ERA in 62 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. He also recorded an 11.32 K/9, although he did struggle with his command with a BB/9 of just under 5.

This season, Horn’s command severely regressed. He is ending his White Sox stint with an ERA that spiked to 11.32 in 10.1 innings. His command got even worse, walking 10 total batters in that stint. Although, he did hold a K/9 rate of just over 13.

Horn is the latest minor leaguer that the White Sox have been able to find a trade partner for this season. In March, they traded Jake Cousins, and earlier this month they designated both Alex Speas and Jose Rodriguez before trading each of them, all also for cash considerations.
