White Sox News and Notes – July 11, 2018

Over the past few days, the White Sox have made several roster moves. Here’s a recap of what you may have missed:

  • Avisail Garcia was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday before the series opener vs. the Cardinals. He is suffering from a strained right hamstring.
  • On Monday, the White Sox claimed outfielder Ryan LaMarre off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. He was added to the 25-man roster on Tuesday, taking the place of Avisail Garcia.
  • White Sox GM Rick Hahn announced on Tuesday that Micker Adolfo will undergo Tommy John surgery in the coming weeks after suffering a setback during his throwing program.
    • Adolfo is expected to miss 8-10 months.
    • The team is hoping to have him with an affiliate by May 1st next year.
  • Prior to tonight’s series finale vs. the Cardinals, the White Sox designated Bruce Rondon for assignment. In his place, they promoted right-handed pitcher Jeanmar Gomez from Triple-A Charlotte.
    • Gomez was 5-0 in 30 relief appearances for the Knights. He pitched 40.0 innings and has a 2.03 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 35 strikeouts. Opponents were hitting just .240 against him.
  • Tanner Banks was promoted to Double-A Birmingham from High-A Winston-Salem today.
    • Banks was 8-2 with a 2.54 ERA in 13 starts with the Dash this year.
    • He will start tonight in place of Dylan Cease for the Barons as they face the Mississippi Braves.
    • Cease was scratched so he can pitch in the All-Star Futures Game in Washington, D.C. this weekend.
  • ⁠ Miguel González underwent surgery on his right shoulder at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles today. Doctors performed a labral repair and debridement on the shoulder, per the White Sox.
    • Gonzalez is expected to miss 9-12 months.
