A new development surrounding the future broadcast home of the Chicago White Sox has come to light.
According to a report by The Athletic’s Scott Powers and Mark Lazerus, Standard Media Group will be creating the new television home for the Blackhawks, Bulls, and White Sox beginning in October. It’s unclear at this time whether or not Stadium will factor into the mix, despite reports saying they will not.
Standard Media Group, which is based out of Nashville, Tenn., is expected to establish the new network. Though currently unnamed, the network is expected to be available across multiple platforms, such as cable networks and streaming providers.
The new network will not be associated with Stadium, per The Athletic’s report. Though other outlets haven’t confirmed this, it wouldn’t seem far-fetched to assume the multi-platform network which Jerry Reinsdorf purchased majority control of in 2023, would still be involved.
Stadium was previously believed to be the landing spot with the NBC Sports Chicago agreement nearing its end. In fact, the Chicago Sun-Times’ Jeff Agrest recently reported that the three teams were nearing a deal with Stadium. It’s unclear at this time what led to this last-minute change or if this is part of some larger deal.
