The White Sox have continued their carousel of bullpen options following the sell-off at the deadline.

Today, the club announced that they will be recalling RHP Brent Honeywell from Charlotte and optioning LHP Sammy Peralta. Honeywell was already on the 40-man roster, so it does not necessitate any other moves than the swap.

Honeywell is a former top prospect with the Tampa Bay Rays, ranking as high as 31st on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 back in 2017. Unfortunately, injuries derailed his career, causing a three-year layoff from pitching from 2018-2020. He returned to the mound in 2021, pitching well enough in Triple-A to get promoted to the Rays’ MLB roster that season.

This year, the 28-year-old has been relegated to relief duties for the Padres, pitching 46.2 innings and holding a 4.05 ERA. On a positive note, he has worked at least 1.0 IP in 31 of his appearances and is limiting right-handers to a .237 (23-for-97) batting average.

Honeywell is known for his screwball, which at its best has been considered a double-plus pitch. He is expected to join the White Sox’s major league roster.

Peralta, 25, has been up and down with the White Sox this season after making his major league debut earlier this year. In five games and 4.1 innings, Peralta has a 4.15 ERA, 3.03 FIP, 26.3 K%, and 15.8 BB%.
