Well, that was something. The White Sox have won and avoided the sweep on a crazy catcher pickoff attempt.
The game started off quiet with no runs until the bottom of the third when Tim Anderson hit a single to drive in Carlos Perez. After the fourth inning, Michael Kopech left today’s game with leg cramps. He pitched a very Kopech-esque day with one hit, allowing four walks and five strikeouts. He is listed as day-to-day.
Two innings later Trayce Thompson hit a two-run shot to give the Sox a 3-0 lead. This was his first home run in a White Sox uniform since May 3rd, 2018.
Aaron Bummer let up a run in the top of the seventh on a bunt single from Josh Rojas after Jose Caballero stole around the bases. The next inning the White Sox were able to escape another jam after the Mariners had men on the corner with one out, but Gregory Santos closed the door after striking out Ty France and inducing a ground out.
The top of the ninth was not so lucky for the Sox as Santos loaded up the bases on two singles and a walk. He then hit Julio Rodriguez on a 0-2 count and Eugenio Suárez singles to give the Mariners the lead. The Sox would answer back in the bottom of the ninth when Oscar Colas hit a lead-off double and then was driven in by Andrew Benintendi with a close play at the plate.
Off to extras! Sammy Peralta dug himself a hole letting the bases get loaded on a walk and a single, but was able to get Julio Rodriguez to ground out to him to end the top half of the inning. After this, Tim Anderson was placed on second as the ghost runner. He took a big lead that caused Cal Relaiegh to throw over to second. Anderson bolted to third to induce a rundown where J.P. Crawford threw a ball that hit Anderson in the head causing the ball to get away and Anderson to stride into home plate to give the Sox the win.
With the win, the White Sox are 50-77 on the season.

It was a hot day, but Oscar Colas was hotter putting himself on base three different times and scoring the tying run in the bottom of the ninth with a double.

Trayce Thompson collected a nice two extra-base hit day and hit his first home run in his third stint back with the White Sox. He also made a nice diving catch in the second inning.

Even with a three-strikeout day, Tim Anderson’s craftiness on the basepath and RBI single helped propel the White Sox to a win.

The box score won’t say it but Edgar Navarro did a good job shutting the door in the top of the ninth. He came in with two men on and only one out and got the job done to give the Sox a chance in the bottom of the ninth.

The Sox continue their home stand as they invite Oakland to town to play a four-game series. The first pitch will be tomorrow at 7:10 CT over on NBC Sports Chicago.
