Weekly Review: White Sox steal headlines; go .500 on the week.

by Sox On 35th Contributors

Boy, what a crazy week for our Chicago White Sox. In case the country didn’t already know who Tim Anderson was, they sure do now. The week started with fireworks, and ultimately ended with a dud, leaving the White Sox record at 3-3 for the past seven days.

April 15: Royals 4, White Sox 5.

Tale of the tape: Ervin Santana surrendered an early 3-0 lead, but the White Sox evened it up in the fifth inning. A costly throwing error by Wellington Castillo ultimately led to the Royals taking the lead in the seventh, but he sure did make up for it an inning later….

April 16th: Royals 1, White Sox 5.

Tale of the tape: What a difference in off-season makes. Yoan Moncada continued his blistering start to the season, hitting a pair of solo shots, while Leury Garcia also decided to get in on the act, launching a two run shot in an easy White Sox victory, assuring them a series win over the Royals.

April 17th: Royals 4, White Sox 3.

Tale of the tape: Have you really not been near a television this week? This one stole the attention of baseball fans everywhere with one swing of the bat, and one clearing of the benches.

S-W-A-G. That is Tim Anderson in a nutshell. Anderson launched a bomb and let his dugout know what he thought about it. The Royals, on the other hand, were not fans. I for one could see the writing on the wall:

Leading off two innings later, Anderson was plunked by Brad Keller, and the benches cleared. Anderson and Renteria were tossed, as well as Keller. Ultimately, the White Sox lost a tough one, when Nate Jones gave up a solo shot to Hunter Dozier in the top half of the 10th.

Anderson and Renteria were suspended one game, and Keller received a 5-game suspension.

Quick Note: Lucas Giolito left the game in the third inning with a strained left hamstring, and was added to the 10-day injured list.

April 18th: White Sox 7, Tigers 9.

Tale of the tape: A pitchers duel this was not. Tigers pitcher Tyson Ross gave up 5 runs — two earned — on seven hits, while Ivan Nova surrendered 11 hits leading to 6 runs. Eloy Jimenez hit his third homer of the season, and Wellington Castillo provided the White Sox with some hope tying the game at 7-7 with a two run shot to right field. The White Sox would then allow two in the bottom half of that frame.

April 19th: White Sox 7, Tigers 3.

Tale of the tape: The battle of the bench coaches. Rick Renteria and Tim Anderson served their one game suspensions, while Ron Gardenhire was ejected in the fifth inning. That led to Joe McEwing (White Sox) and Steve Liddle (Tigers) managing their ball clubs for a night.

Moncada led things off with an absolute bomb to straight away center field…

The game was tight up until the seventh inning, when the Sox put a crooked number on the board, scoring 5 and leading them to a nice easy 7-3 victory. Carlos Rodon earned his third victory of the season going six innings, allowing one run on three hits.

April 20th: PPD

Tale of the tape: Dumb weather rained out all of our Saturday plans.

April 21st: White Sox 3, Tigers 4

Tale of the tape: Happy Easter ChiSox Nation! This was a real snoozer of a game up until the 8th inning. The White Sox collected no hits for five straight innings, but Ricky’s boys didn’t go down without a fight. Trailing 4-0 in the eighth, the Sox scored 3 runs on 4 hits and got right back into the game, but ultimately fell just short. Tigers took the series.
