Tim Anderson, Jose Ramirez throw punches in benches-clearing brawl

It’s apparently fight night in Cleveland.

A wild benches-clearing brawl occurred during the bottom of the sixth inning of Saturday’s game between the White Sox and Guardians. Though it’s not clear exactly what triggered the event, it was centered around Cleveland infielder Jose Ramirez and White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson.

By the looks of it, Ramirez didn’t seem to be pleased with how Anderson tagged him, and the two began exchanging words. Ramirez can be seen pointing in Anderson’s face, and then the two squared up and exchanged several blows. Though Anderson landed the first few, Ramirez responded by knocking TA to the ground.

Both teams and their respective bullpens were involved in the pushing, shoving, and exchanging of heated words. After the initial wave of fighting seemed to die down momentarily, round two shortly ensued.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol was seen getting into it with Cleveland third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh amidst the chaos.

A lengthy meeting between umpires followed once cooler heads prevailed. When all was said and done, the ejections included Ramirez, Anderson, Cleveland reliever Emmanuel Clase, both managers and third base coach Sarbaugh were ejected after one of the most heated fights in baseball in quite some time. Though it’s possible additional ejections were made, these are currently the ones that are known.

Additional discipline is surely expected over the coming days.

As additional information is made available, we will provide further updates.
