The Best of White Sox Twitter: August 14-20

Happy Friday, Sox fans! I want to start things off by first thanking all of you fine folks for reading our inaugural article a week ago. There has been an incredible response to this series so far, and it’s been a lot of fun interacting with all of you who sent tweets my way for this week’s installation.

Before we dive into your content, I want to point out Ken Sawilchik of Future Sox for giving me some inspiration for a larger idea. Ken sent a reply to one of my tweets last Friday asking if there would be any prizes involved in this, which is something I had considered but wasn’t completely sure about. Thanks to his tweet, I brainstormed a bit more and now finally have a plan in place. Here’s what you can expect moving forward…

At the end of each month, we’ll take the tweets that receive the most votes from each category and have a special article dedicated to them. They all will go head to head in a poll to earn the top spot for “Tweet of the Month”. Should you take home this honor, you’ll not only be the recipient of our Sox On 35th koozies but also automatically advance to our “Tweet of the Year” voting.

As for selecting the top tweet of 2020, it’ll be done in a similar fashion. The monthly winners along with a few other tweets deemed worthy of consideration by both you and our crew will advance to the final round. Whichever tweet from that group takes home the highest percentage of votes will be declared our champ.

Since this is for 2020’s best tweet, we have to up the ante for prizes. I won’t promise anything definite just yet since we’re still a while away and new ideas might come to mind. What I will say is that anything from a jersey of the winner’s choice to tickets for a 2021 home game are some of the items likely on the table. We’ll have more details on this as the time comes but hopefully, all of the aforementioned gives you a general idea of how everything will shake out.

Anyways, I think that’s enough of my ramblings. Let’s get to this week’s top tweets!

Humor

This is where we encourage you to go for the laughs. Since this category is almost always going to be the most selective of the few, you’ve got to be on your A-game to land here.

Last week’s winner: Tom Paints (@Tom_Paints)

This poll is no longer accepting votes

Analysis

If you like to dive deep into the stats or make close observations about various aspects of the team, this is the category for you!

Last week’s winner: Josh Nelson (@SoxMachine_Josh)

This poll is no longer accepting votes

Passion, Pride, and Tradition

The root of what it means to be a member of the White Sox and a fan of the team. These are a collection of tweets that don’t necessarily check the box for being funny or overly stat-heavy. Sometimes, they can be emotional takes about how we’re all feeling during a certain game. Other times, they can be as simple as a positive statement or a personal creation like a painting or graphic design. It’ll vary from week to week but I think you get the gist.

Last week’s winner: Tommy Barbee (@KindaBleu)

This poll is no longer accepting votes

Verified Accounts

Pretty self-explanatory here. This category is reserved for your favorite verified accounts and media members.

Last week’s winner: Tie between White Sox Talk (@NBCSWhiteSox) and Chuck Garfien (@ChuckGarfien)

This poll is no longer accepting votes

Before I wrap things up, I want to thank Ryan (@IowaSox) for pointing out several tweets from our fellow Sox fans in Iowa. As you probably know, the state got hit hard by storms that also swept through the Chicago area early last week. Even though countless trees and structures were damaged, many of those who were affected still managed to find ways to support the team. Jason Benetti made note of it on the broadcast several times recently and Andy Masur has responded to folks on social media.

Here are just a few of the tweets shared with me that come from both this week and last:

Check out some of the replies to the various tweets from @IowaSox for more from other fans in the area! We wish everyone all the best in their recovery efforts.

Finally, I want to give another round of thanks to all of you who have been reading this new series and sending content my way throughout the week! If you come across any tweets that you would like to submit for consideration, shoot me a DM or tag me on Twitter @JoeBinder. All of us here at Sox On 35th greatly appreciate your awesome support and engagement!

See you back here next Friday!
