With the start of the White Sox regular season postponed due to coronavirus concerns, NBC Sports Chicago has decided to re-air 70 victories from the 2005 season from now until June. Here at Sox On 35th, we will also be following along and recapping those games for you in our Tale of the Tape series.

The White Sox scored three runs combined between the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead at home. Despite Shingo Takatsu giving up back to back hits in the ninth, Minnesota could not scrape across more than one run, giving the South Siders their 10th win of the 2005 season.

Moment of the Game
The big part of this game came in the fifth inning when the Sox managed to push their first two runs across. Joe Crede began the scoring with an RBI double to bring around A.J. Pierzysnki. After Juan Uribe bunted to push Crede over to third, Scott Podsednik hit a sac fly to drive in the third baseman. It turns out, that extra run was crucial in today’s game. Luckily, Paulie hit a solo shot the following inning to provide some additional insurance.

This game’s offensive MVP in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA) was once again Joe Crede with 17.0 percentage points. Iguchi finished a tick behind him with 11.5 points, as both finished with multi-hit efforts.

With his solo home run in the sixth inning, Paul Konerko recorded his seventh bomb of the season. At this point through 14 games, Paulie was essentially hitting a home run every other game.

The White Sox infield turned three double plays in this one, which was key in holding the Twins off the board until the very last inning. Minnesota finished the game 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

The White Sox winner marked their 10th of the season, making them the first American League team to reach double digits in the win column. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers had more victories at the time with 11.

Joe Crede was today’s player of the game thanks to his efforts to open the scoring with an RBI double and then crossing home plate on Podsednik’s sac fly.
