Some injuries are allowing opportunities to let the kids play.
According to Francys Romero, with Eloy Jimenez’s injury in Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays, the White Sox will be promoting OF prospect Zach DeLoach to the majors. The White Sox have not yet made this move official.
DeLoach, 25, came over to the White Sox as part of the team’s trade of reliever Gregory Santos. In 159 plate appearances in Triple-A so far this season, DeLoach is hitting .263/.358/.343, good for just a 90 wRC+. However, in recent weeks, he has begun to find his power stroke, hitting two home runs over his last six games and posting a .300/.400/.600 slash line over that span. He is coming off of a season in which he hit 23 home runs in Triple-A with the Mariners, so the power is clearly there for the left-hander.
Jimenez injured his hamstring while running home on a base hit from Corey Julks in the fifth inning of Tuesday’s victory. It is unclear just how long Jimenez will be out of action. In 146 plate appearances this season, Jimenez has hit just .231/.288/.381 while posting the highest ground ball rate (54.1%) of his career.
DeLoach was listed as the #27 overall prospect in the White Sox’ organization on our latest rankings following the Dylan Cease trade. While he isn’t considered an elite defensive outfielder, he is capable of manning all three spots at a respectable level. There’s no question can be a fourth outfielder and left-handed platoon player at the MLB level.
