This could be an interesting afternoon for the White Sox.
According to 670 The Score’s Bruce Levine, multiple front office sources have confirmed that the White Sox will trade anyone from the current team other than Luis Robert Jr.
The White Sox haven’t been strangers to trading from their roster this year, already moving five pitchers in the past few days – Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn, Reynaldo Lopez, Kendall Graveman, and Joe Kelly. Keynan Middleton and Aaron Bummer are two names who have also received interest in the bullpen, while Dylan Cease remains the largest prize in the starting rotation.
In previous days, the Marlins and Brewers have been connected to Eloy Jimenez, while the Dodgers have periodically checked in on the availability of Tim Anderson. Toronto could emerge as an intriguing suitor given an apparent leg injury to shortstop Bo Bichette during Monday night’s game. The Marlins are also believed to have previously expressed interest in Anderson, according to an earlier report from ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, though it’s unknown if they are still engaged in talks.
Just yesterday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the White Sox were ready to practically give away Yasmani Grandal via trade, and one can assume that a veteran like Elvis Andrus would likely be on the move as well to a team that he can help down the line. Moves like these would open up the White Sox to opportunities to learn more about their potential next wave of players: hitters such as Korey Lee, Lenyn Sosa, and Carlos Perez and pitchers such as Lane Ramsey.
This year’s MLB Trade Deadline is tonight, August 1, at 5:00 PM CT – a full two hours later than usual. It’s still unclear if any further moves will materialize for the White Sox, but two things are clear:
- They have a lot of players they could look to move
- They are clearly willing to move on from this core and try again in the near future
Will any of it work? That remains to be seen. But, the next five hours or so could be interesting.
