Report: Josh Harrison signs with the Phillies

by Joe Binder

Though the Eagles are in the thick of the NFL playoffs, that’s not stopping their MLB neighbors from making moves.

According to insider Jon Heyman, the Phillies have agreed to a one-year contract with former White Sox second baseman Josh Harrison. The deal is said to be worth $2 million.

Earlier this offseason, the White Sox declined Harrison’s $5.5 million option for the 2023 season. As a result, the team paid his $1.5 million buyout, making him an unrestricted agent. With his new contract and the buyout, the veteran will make $3.5 million this year.

Harrison, 35, originally signed as a free agent with the South Siders on March 15, 2022. His one-year, $5.5 million deal figured to bring some stability to second base, though he failed to impress after getting off to the slowest of starts. By the end of the season, Harrison hit .256/.317/.370 (99-386) with 19 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 27 RBI, and 50 runs scored in 119 games.

By moving on from Harrison, the White Sox have left themselves without a second baseman heading into the 2023 campaign. Though some thought the team might bring in a more definitive option, the White Sox have done the opposite and appear ready to let the trio of Lenyn Sosa, Leury Garcia, and Romy Gonzalez fight for the position. Of the three players, Gonzalez and Sosa are expected to get extended looks in Spring Training after an underwhelming season by Garcia in 2022.

The Sox are the most incompetant and cheap team in MLB.

Hi Joe. Nice to meet you. I am from Southern Pa..near Gettysburg. I too am a die hard Sox fan. Have been since 1959. Fell in love with Nellie Fox and the White Sox when they came to Baltimore for a game that year. Love the Sox spirit. Hope this is a successful year. Good luck to you as well. Glo.

That second base position looks just like entering the last years season meaning no second baseman what are we doing here it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go get madrigal
