Postgame Report: White Sox 7, Tigers 5

The White Sox offense picked up where they left off last night by jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first. After the Tigers plated four in the fourth, Ricky’s boys capitalized the next half inning with four runs of their own. From there, Dylan Cease and the bullpen would lock it down en route to the victory.

The Pale Hose are now back above .500 at 10-9 and leave Detroit with a series win, taking two of three. The Tigers fall to 9-7.

W: Dylan Cease (3-1) | L: Matthew Boyd (0-2) | S: Alex Colome (5)

Notable Performances

Tim Anderson: 4-for-5, HR (2), 3B (1), RBI, 3 runs

In just his second game back from the injured list, Tim Anderson provided another huge spark to the lineup. A lead-off home run in the first began his four-hit performance at the plate, finishing just a double shy of the cycle.

Luis Robert: 1-for-5, 2B (5), 3 RBI, run

Luis Robert always finds a way into our recaps. His bases-clearing double in the fifth proved to be the difference maker this afternoon. To see it in all its glory, check out our “Moment of the Game” section (spoiler alert).

Dylan Cease: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 2 HR (101 pitches – 69 strikes)

Dylan Cease weaved his way in an out of trouble before letting things get out of hand in the fourth. A two-run double immediately followed by a two-run home run resulted in Detroit taking the 5-3 lead at the time. Luckily, the offense bailed him out and he was able to give the team six innings of work.

Eloy Jimenez: 2-for-5, HR (5), RBI, run

After Anderson’s leadoff bomb, Eloy Jimenez hit one the opposite way to go back-to-back. He also fell into the netting along the left field foul line later in the game, but we won’t get into that.

It’s also worth mentioning that since snapping his 0-for-22 slump, Eloy is now 5 for his last 11 with two home runs. Shoutout to Christopher Kamka for the stat!

Moment of the Game

While Tim Anderson and Eloy Jimenez going back-to-back in the first was the early favorite, Luis Robert quickly changed that with one swing. A bases-clearing double in the fifth not only put up a huge three-spot but allowed the Sox to retake the lead for good.

Player of the Game

Tim Anderson takes home today’s honors. His eighth career four-hit game along with the energy and swag added to this lineup makes this decision a no-brainer.

Looking Ahead

The White Sox have an off-day on Thursday before welcoming the St. Louis Cardinals to town this weekend (fingers crossed). Adam Wainwright looks to get the nod on the opposing side, with the Sox’s starter still TBA. First pitch on Friday is set for 7:10 PM CST.
