After their final off day before 17 games in 17 days, the White Sox looked like a team that was coming off a day off out of the gate. Casey Mize was excellent in the ballgame today, twirling a no-hitter through five innings before giving up a hit to Yolmer Sanchez. However, things unraveled quickly after that Sanchez double, as three batters later Eloy Jimenez flipped the scoreboard permanently with a three-run homer in the sixth. The White Sox won today’s game with just three hits.
Evan Marshall, Codi Heuer, and Alex Colome finished off the White Sox’ 28th win in relief of starter Lucas Giolito. With the Twins currently leading the Indians, the White Sox will remain one game up on Minnesota and move to 2.5 games up on Cleveland.

Lucas Giolito: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 23 Swinging Strikes
The wheels came off for Giolito in the sixth inning when his command failed him in the pitcher’s duel. He struck out the first five batters he faced, but clearly looked as if he was battling the command of his off speed pitches all night. He did enough to keep the team in the ballgame, however.
Separately, Giolito broke the all-time Sox record for most strikeouts in the first ten games of his season. Not a bad season for our ace.
Eloy Jimenez: 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 1R
Eloy Jimenez played the hero this evening, if you haven’t figured it out yet. For a guy who had been struggling recently, Jimenez really came through in the clutch here to pick up a big win for the ball club.
Yolmer Sanchez: 1-for-2, 2B, BB, K, 1 R
Yolmer Sanchez deserves to be on here for getting the first hit of the game for the Sox. He got the line moving for the White Sox, a notable feat indeed.
Codi Heuer: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Get used to seeing Heuer’s name used in high leverage situations. This kid has the stuff to be the closer as soon as next season. Yes, we are officially transitioning from #BummerForCloser to #HeuerForCloser. Get it trending, folks.
Other Notable: Evan Marshall was solid out of the bullpen in relief of Giolito. Jose Abreu’s hitting streak ended at 22 games.

Through five innings, Casey Mize was absolute dominant. After a hit by Yolmer Sanchez to get the line moving, Eloy Jimenez came up with the game on the base paths. He delivered.

In a game with as few runs and hits as we saw today, picking the Player of the Game becomes pretty easy for me. Nicely done, Eloy Jimenez – way to help your team out with the clutch hit today.
Looking Ahead
With rain in the forecast all day (uh oh), the White Sox and Tigers are set to square off again at 6:10 PM CT. Recently-recalled Reynaldo Lopez takes the hill for the Sox, and he will be opposed by Michael Fulmer. The game, as always, will be on NBC Sports Chicago.
