Postgame Report: Indians 4, White Sox 3

The Indians defeated the White Sox thanks to a strong pitching performance from Aaron Civale and early offense from Francisco Lindor. The White Sox were plagued by a failure to execute with runners in scoring position. The two teams match up again tonight in the second half of the doubleheader.

W: Aaron Civale | L: Dylan Cease | SV: Brad Hand

Notable Performances

Tim Anderson: 3-for-5, HR, 2 2B, RBI

Tim Anderson had his first big game at the plate this season. He homered to get the White Sox on the board early, then followed up with two doubles.

Dylan Cease: 2.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Dylan Cease had a rough season debut. He struggled with his command and allowed two home runs, which contributed to him not being able to survive the third inning.

The Bullpen: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K

Jace Fry, Jimmy Cordero, Ross Detwiler, Steve Cishek, and Codi Heuer combined to shut down the Cleveland offense for the majority of the game. As a unit, the bullpen was responsible for the White Sox staying in the game.

Luis Robert: 2-for-4

Luis Robert had two sharp singles, which were welcome sights following a bases-loaded plate appearance earlier in the game during which he grounded out.

Moment of the Game

Tim Anderson’s first home run of the season takes today’s honors.

Player of the Game

This might be boring, but the bullpen was the main reason the White Sox were still in the game late. However, Tim Anderson gets an honorable mention here for his three-hit performance.

Looking Ahead

Carlos Rodon and Adam Plutko face off in the latter half of today’s doubleheader. First pitch should take place about 45 minutes after the end of the first game.
