Lance Lynn to Begin Rehab Assignment in AAA Charlotte

The White Sox have announced that Lance Lynn will begin his rehab assignment in AAA Charlotte today, as the Knights take on the Durham Bulls. Lynn will be the starting pitcher, though there is no word on how long of an outing the White Sox are expecting from him.

Lynn has not pitched at all this season after injuring his right knee and requiring surgery due to a slight tendon tear. While the rotation has been pretty stable for the White Sox this season with the emergence of Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, and Johnny Cueto, the White Sox will readily welcome Lynn to the rotation. At current, it appears that the rotation will consist of Lynn, Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, and Johnny Cueto for the foreseeable future, with spot starts from guys like Vince Velasquez or Davis Martin.

Lynn is expected to throw 2-3 rehab starts for Charlotte, and given this timeline, he would line up likely to start by mid-June when the White Sox are in Detroit. Until then, the White Sox are likely to only need one spot starter, thanks to some well-timed off days. Look for either Davis Martin or Vince Velasquez to fill this spot with Dallas Keuchel being designated for assignment.

In 2021 – his first season with the White Sox – Lynn was 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 28 starts. He signed a two-year, $38M extension during the season, with a club option for 2024.

We will keep you posted on his outing today!
