The White Sox injury woes continue.
Monday’s designated hitter Jake Burger left the game vs. Detroit with a hand injury following his fourth-inning at-bat. The White Sox announced it was due to a bruised right hand. The x-rays were thankfully negative, so he is day-to-day.
During the sequence, Burger swung at an inside pitch that hit his right hand. The ball appeared to catch him flush, resulting in a long delay while the training staff looked at him. After a few practice swings, Burger would finish the at-bat by grounding out to second base. He would not return the next time he was due up in the order, as Seby Zavala would strike out in the fifth.
With Burger being one of the consistent contributors as of late, the Sox can ill-afford to lose him for any amount of time. In just the last seven games, the 26-year-old is slashing .385/.448/.808 with three home runs and six runs batted in. Expand those numbers further to encompass the whole season, and Burger is hitting .273/.322/.830 with eight bombs and 23 driven in.
