Guardians 9, White Sox 6: Offense falls short in comeback attempt

The White Sox fell for the third time in Spring Training this year, this time to the division rival Guardians by a score of 9-6.

The South Siders started off the game in a rough spot, going down 4-0 in the 4th inning and then 8-1 in the 7th inning. A comeback started to appear after a Zach Remillard homer in the 7th, cutting the score to 8-4. In the next inning, the Sox added two more runs from a bases-loaded hit by pitch of Carlos Perez followed up by a walk to Colston Montgomery the next at-bat. This is all the Sox would get, though, as the Guardians added a run in the top of the 9th and closed it out shortly after.

The pitching staff didn’t have their best stuff today, as evidenced by the final score. Matthew Thompson and Nicholas Padilla were the only two pitchers to get through an inning without letting up a run. Davis Martin got the loss on the day after giving up two runs in the first two innings. Edgar Navarro gave up four earned runs in his inning pitched, including a home run from former friend Zack Collins.

The White Sox are now 2-3 on the Spring and will go at it again tomorrow.
