Eloy Jimenez Exits Game with Hamstring Injury; Will Miss 6-8 Weeks

by Jordan Lazowski

UPDATE: The White Sox are placing Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. After returning to Chicago, the club says Eloy will undergo further evaluation by the White Sox team physicians at Rush University System for Health and a treatment plan will be put in place.

As of right now, preliminary estimates sideline Jimenez for approximately 6-8 weeks. The team hopes to provide another update prior to Tuesday’s home game, so we should know more then.

When it rains, it pours. And right now, it’s a pretty bleak time in the world of White Sox baseball.

During this afternoon’s contest in his first at-bat of the game, Eloy Jimenez had to leave the game due to a right leg injury. Jimenez suffered the injury after stepping on the first base bag while running out a ground ball to third base. He would require assistance and a cart to leave the field, and he was walking with a very noticeable limp and was in quite a lot of pain.

A video of the injury is below.

On the young season, Jimenez was hitting .229/.263/.343 as yet another member of a struggling White Sox ball club. He had battled a left ankle injury over the past few weeks after fouling a ball off his ankle, but said he was feeling 100% coming into today’s game – he was in LF to start today’s game. It does not appear that injury was at all related to this one, as Jimenez stepped awkwardly on the base while running.

During the broadcast, Steve Stone alluded to a potential “significant” amount of time that Jimenez could miss due to the injury based on Jimenez’s reaction. While we are not sure yet of what the injury is, it appeared to be a lot more serious than any of the White Sox injuries thus far. We will keep you updated as more information becomes known.
