The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed catcher Seby Zavala off waivers after he was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Monday.

Zavala, who has been on the injured list since August 3 with a strained left oblique, was hitting .155/.207/.304 (25-for-161) with seven home runs and 16 RBI over 66 games with the White Sox this season. He ends his four-season stint in Chicago having appeared in 169 games, serving primarily as the back-up to Yasmani Grandal.

With the White Sox looking to get at bats for their potential long-term answer at catcher in Korey Lee, the move made sense. Lee notably bashed his first Major League home run on Tuesday night.

Now, Zavala will make the move to Arizona, where he will likely serve as backup to Gabriel Moreno. The good news for the former White Sox catcher is that he will join a team in the middle of a playoff push, as the Diamondbacks find themselves only one game out of the final wild card in the National League.
