Update (Dec. 30): The White Sox have made the Dallas Keuchel signing official, announcing the three-year, $55.5 million deal via a press release. The veteran starter is set to receive $18 million each season from 2020-22, while the White Sox hold a $20 million option for 2023 with a $1.5-million buyout.
Senior Vice President/GM Rick Hahn had this to say about the move: “We viewed Dallas as one of the premier free agent pitchers available this winter and so are thrilled to add him to this team and to our starting rotation. Dallas is a great competitor who we foresee throwing valuable innings in meaningful games for us over the next several years and leading our entire pitching staff through his example day in and day out.”
The wait is over, Sox fans! We have our starting pitcher. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that left-hander Dallas Keuchel and the Chicago White Sox are in agreement on a deal. The deal is said to be worth three years for $55.5 million with a vesting option for a fourth year, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

Keuchel, 31, spent the 2019 season with the Atlanta Braves after signing with the team in June. He ended up making 19 starts and went 8-8 with a 3.75 ERA, 91 strikeouts, 39 walks, 1.367 WHIP, 4.72 FIP, and 2.0 WAR over 112.2 innings pitched.
This is a major move for the White Sox as they have been looking to add a solid veteran starter to their rotation. As of right now, the rotation looks to include Lucas Giolito, Dallas Keuchel, Dylan Cease, Gio Gonzalez, and Reynaldo Lopez. It is also important to keep in mind that Michael Kopech should be back in the early Spring and Carlos Rodon after the All-Star break. All in all, it looks like the glaring rotation issues that existed last season have been solved heading into 2020.
