Colson Montgomery Ranked #53 on Baseball America Top 100 Prospects List

Colson Montgomery has had an excellent first full season in the White Sox organization, and evaluators across the league have taken notice.

As the draft gets set to take place next Sunday, July 17th, talent evaluators are going to start putting out their updated Top 100 MLB Prospects lists. One of the first ones to come out is Baseball America’s list, which saw Colson Montgomery rise in the ranks all the way to #53 on their mid-season list after not being ranked in the top 100 to start the season.

Baseball America updated his tools to the following values (on a 20-80 scale) – Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Speed: 50 | Fielding: 55 | Arm: 55. Evaluators are still high on his bat-to-ball skills and especially his approach.

Montgomery currently sits in High-A Winston-Salem after earning a promotion from Low-A Kannapolis earlier this year. He has a current 45-game on-base streak between the two locations, and as of now, is hitting a combined .326/.431/.484 across both levels with six home runs, 14 doubles, 48 strikeouts, and 36 walks. In 13 games at Winston-Salem, he has walked (10) more times than he has struck out (six). With the way his season is going, Montgomery is not only likely to rise to AA Birmingham by the end of the year – he’s also likely to continue to rise up the Prospect rankings.

Montgomery is the only current top 100 prospect for the White Sox, though several players have made a case for current and future recognition this season, including Oscar Colas, Bryan Ramos, Carlos Perez, Lenyn Sosa, and Cristian Mena, among others. He is the first Top 100 Prospect the Sox have had in quite some time, as the group of Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Dylan Cease, Andrew Vaughn, and Luis Robert has long graduated from prospect status. Hopefully, the White Sox begin to see a few additional names added to that list by the end-of-year prospect rankings.

However, for now, the White Sox are surely thrilled to be back on the top 100 rankings of such a reputable site.
