A pair of White Sox players made headlines this afternoon. Here’s the latest news:


Lucas Giolito Named Comeback Player of the Year Finalist

To little surprise, Lucas Giolito has been named a finalist for the 2019 Players Choice Awards’ American League Comeback Player of the Year. The MLB Players Association released the news this afternoon via social media and a statement on their website. Giolito joins American Leaguers Jorge Soler (Royals) and Hunter Pence (Rangers) as finalists. As for the National League, players Josh Donaldson (Braves), Sonny Gray (Reds), and Hyun-Jin Ryu (Dodgers) have all been nominated.

The winners are set to be announced early next week.


Nick Madrigal Wins Minor League Gold Glove

White Sox 2018 first rounder and 4th ranked prospect Nick Madrigal was named a 2019 Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner. In 2019, the second baseman split time between High-A Winston-Salem, Double-A Birmingham, and Triple-A Charlotte. In the 108 games played between the three levels, Madrigal made just four errors and finished with a solid .992 fielding percentage in 488 total chances. The Magic Man also finished with a 4.48 range factor which ranked first in all of Minor League Baseball.
