White Sox sign RHP Yosimar Cousin to a two-year MLB deal

by Tommy Gross

The White Sox have reportedly signed Cuban RHP Yosimar Cousin to a two-year, $2 million contract, per Francys Romero.

Cousin, 25, left Cuba in January of 2022 and has not been playing professional baseball since. Before then, he pitched in Cuba since he was 16 years old. Cousin’s career has been okay in Cuba, pitching a 4.80 ERA over 419.2 IP in six seasons but did struggle severely in his last professional season. In 2021, he threw 120.1 IP with a 5.68 ERA and a 1.85 K-BB%.

Even though he didn’t pitch professionally in 2022, he had a handful of live BP for scouts to watch including this one from July of 2022.

Even though this is an MLB deal, he will probably spend some time in the minors to get him back to speed as he hasn’t pitched professionally in about a year and a half. Worth noting, this move does not affect the international bonus pool space for the White Sox because Cousin is 25 years old and has played at least six seasons professionally in Cuba.

As of right now, we do not know what the future plans are for Yosimar Cousin as to where he will start his Sox career and at what role.
