The White Sox have signed infielder Andre Lipcius to a minor league contract, the team announced on Wednesday. The agreement includes a non-roster invite to spring training.
Lipcius, 26, has most recently played in the Dodgers organization after being dealt by the Tigers in March. He was assigned to Los Angeles’ Triple-A affiliate where he slashed .271/.351/.458 with an .809 OPS, 25 home runs, and 89 RBI across 140 games.
Originally a third-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, Lipcius has spent the rest of his time in Tigers organization. He is a career .276/.365/.365 hitter with 93 homers and 462 RBI over seven professional seasons. He’s only ever appeared in the majors during the 2023 season with Detroit, where the infielder went 10-for-35 in a 13-game stretch.
This is a typical depth signing by the White Sox as they look to fill out their minor league rosters. Lipcius’ versatility as a first, second, and third baseman could help him in his fight for playing time, though it’s likely he just spends his season in Charlotte barring a breakout performance or injury to another player.
