White Sox First-Round Pick Nick Madrigal Promoted to Low-A Kannapolis

by Joe Binder

White Sox first-round draft pick Nick Madrigal is on the move! The former Oregon State infielder has been promoted to Low-A Kannapolis after a brief stint with the Arizona League White Sox. The move was first rumored on Sunday night by photographer Zachary Lucy, who covers the Arizona League team.

During his time in Glendale, Madrigal hit .154 in just 13 at bats. He picked up a pair of singles along with a walk, RBI, and two runs scored in that stretch. The promotion to the Kannapolis Intimidators comes just a week and a half after Madrigal signed with the club, and was actually expected to occur last week. However, after reports came out that Madrigal had been battling a minor hamstring issue dating back several weeks, the organization decided to take it slow.

The 2018 College World Series Champion signed with the White Sox on July 5th for the slot bonus value of $6,411,400. During his three years at Oregon State, Madrigal hit .361 with 8 HR, 103 RBI, .502 slugging percentage, .422 on-base percentage, and owned a .981 fielding percentage.

There is no word yet on whether Madrigal will be starting on Monday night for the Intimidators. For more updates, be sure to follow us on Twitter @SoxOn35th. Also, give the the Kannapolis Intimidators (@Intimidators) and their broadcaster Trevor Wilt (@Trevor_Wilt10) a follow.
