White Sox 8, Reds 2: Kopech Deals in Spring Debut

by Brian Barry

The Sox teed off on Hunter Greene for seven runs in the first two innings, springboarding the Southsiders to a 8-2 victory. Yasmani Grandal kicked things off with a two-run blast in the first, driving in Yoan Moncada. The boys topped on five more runs in the 2nd inning, highlighted by a Gavin Sheets solo home run, Tim Anderson RBI single, and Luis Robert 2-RBI double. The crooked number became 7 when Moncada drove in Robert via sacrifice fly. Roughly a week out from Opening Day in Detroit, it’s nice to see the lineup fixtures find a bit of rhythm and drive the ball. Jake Burger added on a solo shot in the 9th to make it 8-2.

Speaking of the pitching staff, Michael Kopech’s brief, yet much anticipated Spring Training debut was highlighted by two strikeouts. Kopech gave up a solo shot to the first batter he faced, Jonathan India. He would go on to retire the next six batters. Unfortunately, the buck doesn’t stop there with news on our young arms:

We hope the injury is minor for Crochet and he’s ready to go to start the season. The Sox begin April tomorrow with a 3:05 PM CST start versus Oakland. You catch pre and post game information here on soxon35th.com.
