Tale of the Tape ’05 Edition: White Sox 6, Athletics 0

With the start of the White Sox regular season postponed due to coronavirus concerns, NBC Sports Chicago has decided to re-air 70 victories from the 2005 season from now until June. Here at Sox On 35th, we will also be following along and recapping those games for you in our Tale of the Tape series.

The story of today’s “Sox Rewind” game was starting pitcher Jon Garland, who went the distance while limiting Oakland to just four hits in a 6-0 victory.

Jon Garland owned a massive 43.4 Win Probability Added (WPA) by the end of this game thanks to nine full innings of shutout baseball.

With the victory, Jon Garland’s record on the season improved to 4-0 while Oakland’s Barry Zito fell to 0-4. The number of total hits the Athletics also recorded: four.

Chris Widger, Carl Everett, and Paul Konerko each drove in two runs for the White Sox. Widger did so by hitting a two-run homer, Everett by way of a two-RBI double, and Paulie via a ninth inning single to center.
