With uncertainty now surrounding Garrett Crochet amid his contract demands, another White Sox pitcher continues to emerge as a hot commodity.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, Houston is “actively considering” a trade for right-hander Erick Fedde. Yahoo Sports’ Russell Dorsey also reported similar findings, saying the Astros and Cardinals are the most aggressive out of 10 teams in contact with Getz and Co.

Fedde, 31, has turned into the biggest move of the offseason for an abysmal White Sox team. After reinventing himself in the KBO last season, the former Washington National has gone 7-3 with a 2.98 ERA (39 ER/117.2 IP), 3.68 FIP, 1.113 WHIP, and 8.0 K/P over 20 starts this season. This has led Fedde to rank 19th in fWAR among qualified starting pitchers, making him quite the trade piece for any team looking to bolster their rotation.

Playing this season on a $7.5 million salary and set to make a matching amount in 2025, Fedde’s value will likely never be higher for the White Sox. In the right package, he should be able to get at least a fringe top-100 prospect and one other player. Our editor-in-chief Jordan Lazowski just recently provided 10 mock drafts for the White Sox to consider at this deadline, several of which showcase some of the talent the team could target for Fedde.

With Fedde scheduled to throw next against the Mariners on Saturday, it will likely be the veteran’s final start before pitching himself off this team. Perhaps a contender will emerge before then and make an offer the Sox can’t refuse. Only time will tell.
