Postgame Report: White Sox 10, Cubs 1

by Sox On 35th Contributors

Coming off a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers, the White Sox bats stayed hot again tonight, dominating the Cubs 10-1 in the first of a three-game series at Wrigley Field. Dallas Keuchel pitched a gem and the offense exploded with five home runs, knocking Jon Lester out of the game before the end of the fourth inning.

W: Dallas Keuchel (4-2, 2.65 ERA) | L: Jon Lester (2-1, 5.06 ERA)

Notable Performances

Dallas Keuchel: 8.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Talk about a veteran performance by Dallas Keuchel tonight. He completely shut down the Cubs lineup for the majority of the game. The southpaw’s presence in this rotation is huge, and it looks like his words have stuck with this team.

Yasmani Grandal: 2-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Yasmani Grandal was one of many who showed the power tonight. He did so in the top of the fourth with a 2-run bomb off of Jon Lester, forcing David Ross to end his night. In addition to a solid night at the plate, he also had a great night behind the plate framing Keuchel’s pitches well and helping him shut down this Cubs lineup.

Jose Abreu: 2-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R

The longest-tenured White Sox is showing why he earned that three-year extension at the end of last season. Jose hit a three-run homer in the top of the 3rd, making the score 5-0 at the time, only to follow it up with another solo moonshot in the top of the 9th. The anchor of this lineup has been showing out lately.

Other Notables:

Luis Robert got the scoring started with a two-run shot in the 2nd inning making it 2-0. Eloy Jimenez got in on the fun with a 399-foot solo home run of his own. Danny Mendick also had a bomb and Adam Engel had himself a nice day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Enjoy a few more highlights!

Moment of the Game

Jeez. Where do I even start? This game had so many fun moments and truly showed the power of this White Sox lineup. I would have to give the moment of the game to Jose Abreu and his three-run home run in the 3rd, solidifying the lead to five runs.

Player of the Game

You have to give the Player of the Game to either Jose Abreu or Dallas Keuchel. Pito drove in four of the team’s 10 runs with his pair of bombs while Keuchel pitched his best outing in a White Sox uniform against a strong Cubs’ lineup. Overall, a great team win.

Looking Ahead

The Cubs will send Kyle Hendricks to the mound tomorrow while the White Sox currently have their starter listed as TBD. First pitch is once again at 7:15 PM CST.
