Luis Robert Jr. will participate in the 2023 Home Run Derby

by Thatcher Zalewski

Despite previously saying he would not participate in the Home Run Derby, it appears Luis Robert Jr. has had a change of heart.

Via his Instagram – and later officially announced by the White Sox – Luis Robert Jr. announced that he will not only play in the 2023 All-Star Game in Seattle but also in the Home Run Derby the day before.

Robert is currently second in the American League in home runs with 25 – which is also currently tied for the third-most in all of baseball. This news comes just a day after Robert launched a home run that traveled 450 ft – something important to consider now that the distance the ball is hit in the Home Run Derby matters for extra time.

This will be Robert’s first appearance in the Home Run Derby. He will look to be the first White Sox player to win the derby since Frank Thomas in 1995 and take home an extra $1M if he happens to be victorious.

The rest of the Home Run Derby field has not yet been announced, but make sure to stay tuned for Robert’s competition in the coming days!
