Following a detailed update from Ken Rosenthal regarding Garrett Crochet on Monday night, Tuesday offered a couple of new pieces on the matter.
Chicago Sports Network’s Chuck Garfien weighed in with his knowledge, relaying that a dozen teams have checked in on the Sox’s prized lefty in some form. The long-time White Sox reporter defined talks as largely “preliminary” and keying in on the Red Sox and Orioles as being particularly quiet. That aligns with Rosenthal’s report of both New York teams’ leading the charge on Crochet. However, Garfien expressed skepticism that the Yankees may still target Crochet after just inking southpaw Max Fried to an eight-year deal tonight.
Elsewhere, Jon Heyman rattled off six teams known to be interested in Crochet, with a mention of a “mystery team” as well (classic). Matching the sentiment of other rumors, Heyman indicated surprise at the slower, lackluster nature of Crochet’s trade talks.
Crochet, 25, posted a 3.58 ERA in 146 IP in 2024, notching a sterling 209 strikeouts and 2.69 FIP along the way. Notably, the AL Comeback Player of the Year has two years left on his contract. Teams paying Crochet are on the hook for only $2.9 million in 2025 and a presumably similar, arbitration-pending amount in 2026.
