The injury bug hit the White Sox early this season.

Thursday afternoon, the White Sox announced that Andrew Benintendi will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of his right hand.

The injury occurred during his first at-bat of Thursday’s ballgame, when he was hit in the hand by Guardians’ starter Logan Allen.

Benintendi is entering the third season of a five-year, $75M deal with the White Sox. He’s struggled mightily over the course of the contract, though did tie his career high with 20 home runs last season due to a strong second half. He was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in the early part of the Spring.

Benintendi’s injury is non-surgical, according to MLB’s Scott Merkin, so that’s some good news amongst all the bad news. In Benintendi’s absence, expect Austin Slater and Michael A. Taylor to step up alongside Luis Robert Jr. and Mike Tauchman in the outfield.

As more information becomes available, we will continue to provide updates.
