White Sox announce their 2024 player development staff

by Matt Cotner

The White Sox have announced their minor-league player development staff for the 2024 season. This is the first staff that Paul Janish will oversee as the newly named director of player development.

There is little change amongst the managers of the minor league clubs. Justin Jirschele (Triple-A Charlotte), Sergio Santos (Double-A Birmingham), Guillermo Quiroz (High-A Winston-Salem), Patrick Leyland (Low-A Kannapolis), and Danny González (Arizona Complex League Sox) will serve for their corresponding teams in 2024. Jirschele, Quiroz, Leyland, and González all return to their managerial posts following the 2023 season.

The sole managerial change is in Double-A Birmingham, where Sergio Santos will take the lead. Santos pitched for the White Sox in 2010 and 2011, amassing 115 IP over the two seasons, with ERAs of 2.96 and 3.55, respectively. After his tenure with the White Sox, he pitched for the Blue Jays, Dodgers, and Yankees. Since then, he has spent two years managing in the New York Yankees minor league system.

As for the new director of player development, Janish seems to feel optimistic about the group. “I am extremely excited to work with this talented group of managers, coaches, coordinators, and staff that has been assembled for the 2024 season,” said Janish. “Our entire staff has been working all off-season to ensure our players will be ready to hit the ground running for mini camps, spring training, and into the regular season. The ultimate goal remains to have our players prepared and ready to contribute at the major-league level, and we believe this staff is well-equipped to help all of our players reach his full potential. I am excited to get our full staff together at our complex and on the field to begin fully implementing our programs with the players in our organization.”

Returning coordinators include Doug Sisson (field), Matt Zaleski (pitching), Ryan Newman (infield) and Julio Mosquera (catching). Former White Sox major-league bullpen coach Curt Hasler will also join Donnie Veal as an assistant pitching coordinator.

Most of these people are former failed Sox prospects or people with ties to Ebenezer Reinsdorf.

Until there is new ownership and a major housing cleaning is done, Sox farm system will be nothing but a giant pile of excrement.
