White Sox 5, Royals 1: Giolito’s strong outing yields series win

by Joe Binder

Everything was clicking for the White Sox on Saturday as the team earned yet another series win.

It all started with Lucas Giolito on the mound, who settled in nicely after surrendering a first-inning homer to Salvador Perez. The right-hander went six-strong and managed to get several key strikeouts along the way to limit any further damage. Though he didn’t have his best stuff, Giolito continues to show off his consistency and provide quality outings.

On the offensive end, Yoan Moncada provided some early run support with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. The lead would last and only grow, as Jake Burger notched a bases-clearing double to blow the game open in the sixth and secure the win.

The team’s second-straight victory improves their record to 18-29 on the season. They will have a chance to gain another game in the standings pending the outcome of Minnesota’s late-night matchup vs. the Angels.

W: Lucas Giolito (3-3, 3.62 ERA) | L: Jordan Lyles (0-8, 7.15 ERA)
