White Sox 5, Athletics 4: Late comeback fuels win

by Michael Suareo

A back-and-forth affair saw the South Siders come out victorious this afternoon.

The White Sox trailed the Athletics through the first six innings before tying the game up in the seventh. It remained that way until the bottom of the ninth when a sacrifice bunt from Billy Hamilton got the White Sox the win.

Dylan Cease appeared to be continuing his shaky Spring Training after a two-run first inning, however, he settled down and 2.1 strong shutout innings afterward, finishing his start with four strikeouts and just one earned run allowed (two runs in total). Bryan Shaw and Jake Diekman were able to keep the Athletics off the board through the fifth inning, however, Joe Kelly wasn’t able to escape the sixth inning without giving up one run. After that, the rest of the bullpen was able to hold the Athletics to just one more run.

At the plate, Hanser Alberto made a triumphant return after sitting out the past four games, hitting a solo home run in the third inning. Elvis Andrus, Leury Garcia, Erik Gonzalez, and Seby Zavala each hit a double, with Gonzalez and Zavala each driving in a run. Billy Hamilton was the hero of the afternoon, however, as his stolen base led to a run in the 7th and his sacrifice bunt ultimately got the Sox the win.

With the victory, the White Sox improved to 8-6 in the Spring.
