White Sox 4, Red Sox 1: Robert’s bombs clinch series victory

by Nicole Reitz

After a walk-off win yesterday in extra innings, the Sox came out today even hotter, as they took the series over the Boston Red Sox.

Tanner Banks got the start for the Sox but didn’t last on the mound very long. After issuing back-to-back walks and allowing Adam Duvall to double, the Red Sox took the lead early in the third inning. Banks was yanked after throwing 63 pitches in just two innings. Jesse Scholtens took over for Banks, throwing four innings with no runs allowed and just two hits.

The bats finally came alive in the fourth inning, after Andrew Benintendi singled and Luis Robert Jr. went ahead to put the Sox on the board when he launched a two-run home run to center field to take back the lead.

The runs continued from there when Benintendi doubled, sending home Gavin Sheets in the fifth inning. Then, Luis Robert Jr. continued his immaculate afternoon after he sent his second home run of the day to left field in the sixth inning, making that his 21st homer of the season.

Aaron Bummer and Keynan Middleton went on to retire the Red Sox in order in the final two innings.

With the win, the Sox move to a 33-45 record.

W: Jesse Scholtens (1-2) | L: Kutter Crawford (2-4) | SV: Kenyan Middleton
