White Sox 12, Tigers 3: Offense roars to life in Motor City

by Jordan Lazowski

Well, that certainly was a fun ballgame.

After a brutal offensive showing on Thursday night, the White Sox made up for it and then some on Friday, hammering out 17 hits in a winning effort. The team also compiled three triples, the most since a September 2017 game against the San Francisco Giants. Luis Robert Jr. was the only White Sox starter without a hit, and Tim Anderson, Andrew Benintendi, Yoan Moncada, Andrew Vaughn, Jake Burger, and Clint Frazier all turned in multi-hit efforts.

On the bump, the White Sox turned to Lance Lynn, who struggled early with ineffectiveness while having to work around defensive shortcomings from Andrew Benintendi and Yoan Moncada as well. Through two innings, it looked like it would be a short outing for Lynn; however, he was able to really settle in, completing six strong innings of work and saving the White Sox bullpen for what could be a tough afternoon on Saturday. Reynaldo Lopez, Keynan Middleton, and Jimmy Lambert all saw action today, and all three finished their innings without giving up a hit.

With the victory, the White Sox improve to 22-31. They are now five games back – somehow – in the AL Central.

W: Lance Lynn (4-5) | L: Joey Wentz (1-5)

Notable Performances

Lance Lynn: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

Lynn was able to overcome some early command troubles, working in and out of trouble in multiple innings to still somehow finish six innings of work and keep the White Sox in a great position to win the ballgame.

Yoan Moncada: 3-for-5, 3B, 3 RBI, R

Moncada broke out of a 0-for-14 stretch at the plate in this one with hits from both sides of the plate.

Andrew Vaughn: 2-for-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R

Vaughn supplied some extra-base power in this one, getting his OPS up to .729 while hitting the ball hard most of the night.

Tim Anderson: 4-for-5, 2 R, RBI, BB

Reaching base five times out of the leadoff spot is usually the sign of a good day.
