Stats On 35th – Let’s Break this One Down by the Numbers

Today’s Numbers:

23.1, 50, 33, 110.8, 170

23.1

Today’s MVPs, in terms of Win Probability Added (WPA), are reliever Aaron Bummer and Jose Abreu. Both Bummer and Abreu added 23.1 percentage points to the White Sox win probability this afternoon. Bummer gave up only one hit over two scoreless innings, and Abreu finished a triple shy of the cycle, driving home three of the team’s five runs.

50

Today’s win marked the 50th victory of the season as the team improved to 50-61. For comparison, the White Sox did not win their 50th game last season until August 24th, a difference of 18 days.

33

This stat comes courtesy of the stat god, Christopher Kamka of NBC Sports Chicago. Dylan Cease has 33 strikeouts in 33 innings over the course of 6 starts to begin his Major League career.

110.8

Jose Abreu scorched the ball all afternoon long. He ended up taking home the first and second place trophies for exit velocity with 110.8 mph on his ninth inning single and 110.5 mph on a double play ball. His first inning home run left the bat at 95.6 mph and his fifth inning double registered at 100.6 mph.

170

Sticking with Abreu to close out this afternoon’s stats, the first baseman’s home run in the first inning marked his 23rd of the season and 170th of his career. He is now only two home runs away from passing Robin Ventura (171) for sixth place on the franchise’s all-time list. After that, he’ll look to pass Magglio Ordonez at 187. Oh-wee-oh.
